Hundreds of Humboldt State University students and community volunteers are expected to join in HSU’s 20th Annual Day of Caring on Saturday, Sept. 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., a partnership of the university’s Service Learning and Academic Internships and United Way of the Wine Country.
HSU President Rollin Richmond will address volunteers as they depart on buses at 8 a.m. from the Art Quad opposite Van Duzer Theater. He will join them in various activities with community partners.
Volunteer work will include:
- Removal of invasive plants and trash at Arcata Marsh, in partnership with Friends of Arcata Marsh, Friends of the Dunes and the City of Arcata
- Special event organization at the Boys & Girls Club, Arcata Teen Center
- California Coastal Cleanup at Coopers Gulch, Hikshari’ Trail and Ma-Le’L Dunes South, in association with the Northcoast Environmental Center
- Food box assembly with Food for People
- Gardening and other activities at the Manila Community Center and at Potawat Garden, United Indian Health Services
- Mural project and grounds clean-up, Westside Community Improvement Association
- Trail work, restoration, Humboldt Area Foundation
