Charles M. (Mike) Anderson, emeritus professor of environmental resources engineering at Humboldt State University, is among 100 finalists in _Audubon Magazine’s_ inaugural photography awards competition who were chosen from among approximately 2,500 contestants. They submitted some 16,000-plus images.

Anderson’s picture, “Barn Swallows: Male Parent feeding Baby Near Docks,” was taken at Woodley Island Marina in Eureka on July 5, 2008, and is among 31 winning photos published in the January-February 2010 edition of Audubon Magazine. Anderson captured the barn swallows with a Nikon D3 camera, a Nikkor VR 200-400 lens and a 1.4X tele-converter, full manual 1/1000 at f6.7. His work has appeared in many local exhibits, including presentations the Arcata Marsh Interpretation Center, Clarke Historical Museum, U.S. Bank and others.
