Humboldt State University recently completed a national search for a new Chief of University Police. Two-year-interim Chief Tom Dewey has now been officially appointed as head of the department.
Chief Dewey previously held the ranks of lieutenant and sergeant with the university. Prior to which, he spent 19 years with the Arcata Police Department, and worked for the National Parks Service.
"Tom Dewey has extensive experience in police work," said HSU President Rollin Richmond. "He has a caring attitude towards students and good relationships with other police agencies in our community. We look forward to the continuation of a safe climate at HSU."
Dewey follows Chief Robert Foster who retired in 2004.
Also a 1983 HSU graduate, Dewey said, "I am excited to serve my alma mater and my community as the new Chief."
