Service Learning is academic study that combines community service engagement with academic instruction as it focuses on critical, reflective thinking and civic responsibility. The academic study may be in any discipline or combination of fields. The service may address a variety of community needs including direct service to people in need, improvement of community resources, community outreach and education, or policy analysis.

The HSU Service Learning Fellows Program has two major components for faculty engagement: 1) service learning course development (i.e., re-designing an existing course or designing a new course to integrate service learning within the identified course), with a specific focus on freshman and sophomore level courses, and 2) participation in a four-part faculty development service learning series of workshops.

The Service Learning Faculty Fellows will join with colleagues from across campus to learn the “nuts and bolts” of implementing a service-learning component within their course(s).

To apply, or for more information about the Service Learning Faculty Fellows Program, contact Annie Bolick-Floss at amb2@humboldt.edu or dial 707-826-5457.
