HSU Staff Recognized

An annual staff celebration at Humboldt State University will recognize 45 employees who have reached important milestones: working at HSU for 10 and 20 years.

“This annual event is an opportunity to officially recognize and thank our HSU staff members for their continued, loyal service to this university and ultimately to our students,” says Lisa Bond-Maupin, Deputy Chief of Staff. “Staff members are invaluable partners in the success of anything we do. They are those to whom we turn to advance transformative initiatives as they also keep our day-to-day operations humming. We are indebted to them.”

The virtual celebration will also feature prizes that were purchased from local businesses, including those owned by HSU alumni.

In previous years, the May staff appreciation event sponsored by HSU’s Staff Council has featured a raffle of prizes that were donated by local businesses. Considering the toll the pandemic has taken on the economy, HSU’s Staff Council believed giving back to the community at a time when they most need it is the right thing to do.

“We know businesses have been suffering over the last year and so we made the decision to support the people who have supported HSU,” says Sulaina Banks, Staff Council president.

Raffle prizes include a gift basket, gift certificates, and handmade soaps.

Small businesses across the nation have struggled to remain financially viable since the pandemic began. Illustrating that struggle is the volume of calls and emails HSU’s Northern California Small Business Development Center has received since March 2020, when the U.S. Small Business Administration declared an economic crisis for small businesses.
