The multi-pronged system includes visual, auditory and electronic messages to alert as many people as possible that the system is being tested. Because the test is a drill, there will be no evacuation.
Alerts include “Test Today” sandwich boards at prominent locations around campus, notices on the HSU Homepage, announcements on 826-INFO and KHSU 90.5 FM, text messages transmitted to registered cell phones and activation of the Emergency Public Address System between 10:45 and 11 a.m.
The public address system will broadcast electronic alert high-low tones, a spoken test message and a concluding “all clear” tone. White strobe lights will flash from various rooftop locations.
The best sources of additional information during an emergency alert are humboldt.edu/emergency; 707/826-INFO (4636); and KHSU 90.5 FM.
The campus community is encouraged to use these sources during the Sept. 29 drill. Problems should be reported at response@humboldt.edu.
Cell phone numbers can be registered through the Account Center (previously WebReg) from the Quick Links section of the HSU Homepage. Assistance with registration is available from the HELP desk at 826-4357.
