Participants can digitize documents and photographs of historical value using scanners and computers, store them on hard drives or flash drives, or share them through social media. A technician and archivist will be on site to teach and assist everyone with the digitization process.
Humboldt History Digitization Day is supported by the “Innovative Digital Literacies” grant funded by the California State Library’s Library Services and Technology Act. The grant was written by Librarian Louis Knecht to shift the power of archiving from institutions to individuals using tutorials and access to equipment. Knecht is hoping that the turnout for the event will be representative of the diversity in Humboldt County. There will be active social media available for those that wish to share their story.
Reservations are preferred to ensure that enough support is on hand. It is recommended that you sign up for a 20-minute digitization slot, and prioritize 10 items to scan. If you have your own flash drive or hard drive, please bring it, or the Library will provide a flash drive. Supplies are limited.
