Humboldt State President and Faculty Member to Speak at TEDx Humboldt Bay

Humboldt State University Geography Professor Stephen Cunha and President Lisa Rossbacher will deliver talks at TEDx Humboldt Bay on Sunday, December 7 from noon to 5 p.m. at the College of the Redwoods Theatre in Eureka.

The half-day event will feature speakers on a variety of topics including: being a woman in construction, polygamy in the modern world, distilling spirits and outlawed tattoos. The theme is Humboldt “outlaws”: people, places, and events off the straight and narrow.

Stephen Cunha has served as a professor in Humboldt State’s Geography Department since 1996, where his research and teaching focus on environmental geography, mountain environments, Central Asia, Alaska and the Sierra Nevada. His TEDx talk is titled, “High Priority: Protecting Mountain Environments.”

Rossbacher became the seventh and first female president of Humboldt State in July 2014, after serving as president of Southern Polytechnic State University in Marietta, Ga. for 16 years. Her research interests focus on the role of water and ice on the planet Mars, environmental risks and higher education leadership. Her TEDx talk is titled, “Why science has to be wrong: A journey to the center of the Earth.”

Tickets are $25 and available in advance by visiting tedxhumboldtbay.com.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)
