HSU was ranked 23rd among master’s institutions in the country and tenth among public schools in 2014 for its contribution to the public good.
The annual ranking rates schools in three broad categories: Social Mobility (recruiting and graduating low-income students), Research (producing cutting-edge scholarship and PhDs), and Service (encouraging students to give something back to their country).
The list gave HSU high marks for the number of students who receive Pell Grants—45 percent—and ranked the university 15th for the number of alumni who go on to serve in the Peace Corps.
U.S. News & World Report’s Best Colleges ranking also named HSU a top western university in 2015. HSU was ranked 16th among public schools in the annual report, which rates colleges on a variety of factors including academic quality and excellence.
