Jazz Legend Wows Humboldt State

He’s won ten Grammys, an Oscar and scores of international awards; he was the first jazz musician to field a platinum jazz album and last Friday night, legendary keyboardist, Herbie Hancock, played to a packed crowd at Humboldt State’s Van Duzer theater.

Herbie Hancock made a name for himself as the pianist in Miles Davis’ ground-breaking quintet and as a young leader and compositional genius who recorded instant classics such as Maiden Voyage and Cantaloupe Island. His work with his genre-busting Headhunters group generated a major hit record and helped define the jazz-fusion sounds of the '70s. With an illustrious career spanning five decades, he continues to amaze audiences and never ceases to expand the public’s vision of what jazz music is all about today.

Hancock is just one of the many famous performers to have graced Humboldt State’s Van Duzer theater. This season alone, Humboldt State will play host to scores of comedians, speakers, authors, musicians and Broadway shows, including Lily Tomlin, Robert Kennedy Jr., The Cowboy Junkies, Garrison Keillor, Jesus Christ Superstar and The Producers.
