The two hour kick start into Canvas includes presentations, a variety of learning stations, access to computers and laptops, hands-on assistance, raffle prizes including Beats Solo3 Wireless Headphones, and, of course, pizza.
After a successful January 2017 HSU Faculty Canvas Spring Migration event, the HSU Canvas Project Team is now widening its scope to include students in Canvas workshops.
With a focus on Canvas tools for increased student engagement, empowerment, access, collaboration and feedback, the Canvas Student Event will provide an open space for students to share their Canvas experiences and showcase valuable Canvas features and functionalities with their peers and faculty.
The Canvas Project Team is planning the event in conjunction with a Canvas Student Contributor Group, as well as by using data collected from students surveys and focus groups in the Canvas Pilot Program, which took place in Spring 2016 to help make this decision to switch from Moodle to Canvas. The results can be read in the HSU LMS Canvas Evaluation Report from June 2016.
At the March 23 event, there will be numerous stations around the HSU Scholars Lab where students will be able to advance their integration of Canvas into their HSU coursework, including the following:
- Create Canvas Profile and edit notification settings
- Download and set-up the mobile Canvas app
- Utilize What-if Grades to approximate potential final grade scenarios
- Walk through the Dashboard overview
- Locate upcoming Assignments
- Manage Calendar
- Utilize the Inbox for communications
- Learn about Collaboration, Discussions and Peer Reviews
Students will receive a punch card to be validated at each station. The punch cards will be placed into a raffle drawing for $10 gift certificates for Los Bagels, Ramones, Stars Hamburgers and more, with a grand prize drawing for Beats Solo3 Wireless Headphones! All participants will walk away with a Canvas USB drive, free pizza, and a new start with HSU’s dynamic teaching and learning tool, Canvas.
