Humboldt State University Library, in conjunction with KEET-TV, Morris Graves Museum of Art and Humboldt Arts Council (MGMA), Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI), and North Coast Preparatory Academy (NPA), is offering outreach in the local community through screenings, discussions, workshops, and cultural events beginning this June.
KEET-TV has received a "Power of Art" outreach initiative grant from Thirteen/WNET New York. "Power of Art" is an eight-part series airing on PBS this June. It explores dramatic turning points in the lives of eight cutting-edge artists - Vincent van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio, Gian Lorenzo Bernini, Rembrandt van Rijn, Jacques-Louis David, J.M.W. Turner and Mark Rothko - and the masterpieces that changed the way the world looks at art. The series is hosted by best-selling author and art historian Simon Schama.
The HSU Library will hold weekly screenings of the "Power of Art" series this fall, and initiate discussion about visual arts and enhance critical thinking skills.
This summer, there will be an exhibit to promote the viewings, Museum classes, the North Coast Masters Contest and other cultural and educational events.
