The upgrade promises to enhance productivity for students, staff and faculty by easing access to data and ultimately improving efficiency for all users.
With Student Center, students will be able to manage financial aid, student fees, advising, grading and registration in the integrated system. The online centers, powered by Oracle's PeopleSoft software, combine several areas of university business into one cohesive system. For example, students can use an integrated to-do list to keep track of late fees or document requirements that must be dealt with before registering for classes or receiving financial aid.
In March continuing HSU students will have access to Student Center when financial aid data becomes available. The phased rollout of services then includes class registration beginning in April, as students sign up for the fall semester. Students will begin managing their University charges, payments and refunds in July. Incoming students have had access to Student Center since last October.
WebReg, HSU's outgoing system, will get a few final uses before it’s retired. Students who are currently enrolled at HSU will need to use the old system for summer '09 registration.
Finally, students who are new to the University will have immediate access to all of Student Center's features beginning with their fall '09 registration.
The new system also updates how faculty members conduct business with the University. Faculty Center users can view weekly class schedules, grade students, view rosters and advisees and contact enrolled students. The new online center will be available for faculty advising needs beginning in April '09.
The Student and Faculty centers are two of the newest aspects of HSU's implementation of a years-long, California State University system-wide upgrade that includes PeopleSoft Human Resources, Financials and Campus Solutions (student administration) software.
HSU is currently using the software for customer relationship management, including admission communications, which went live in October '08. According to Common Management Systems, the Campus Solutions implementation is anticipated for completion in October '09.
