Across campus, approximately 700 first-year students, in addition to returning students, settled into their residences and began making Humboldt home. Staff and student volunteers welcomed residents, offered directions, and helped with move-in as the rhythms of student life returned to campus. Approximately 2,340 students are living in University housing this year.
“Move-In Day is more than just getting students into their rooms. It’s the beginning of their Humboldt experience,” said Donyet King, executive director for Housing & Residence Life. “We know this transition can be both exciting and overwhelming, so our goal is to help students and families feel supported from the moment they arrive. I’m incredibly proud of our professional staff, student leaders, and campus partners who put in an incredible amount of time and care into preparing for this day so that every student can feel like they belong from day one.”
This Move-In Day was a milestone for Hinarr Hu Moulik, as upper-division students moved into the newly opened second building of the residence complex. The largest student housing project in University history, Hinarr Hu Moulik first opened its doors in Fall 2025 as part of Cal Poly Humboldt’s polytechnic transformation.
The welcome extended across the broader Humboldt community. A dozen local vendors and organizations were on campus to greet students and families, including Cypress Grove Cheese, HealthSport, Los Bagels and more, adding a local flavor to the day.
The weekend also marks the beginning of Freshman Welcome Week, with activities designed to help students build connections and become familiar with campus life. Before classes begin, students have opportunities to meet fellow Lumberjacks, learn about campus resources, and explore the broader Humboldt community.
