Development of myHumboldt will occur in phases, with the current iteration of the site focusing on students’ needs. “myHumboldt is how students will access their personal information in important applications—like Moodle, Gmail and Student Center—and get reminders of what they need to do, and when, as well as the latest events calendar,” says Robin Jones, portal content coordinator.
Upgrades for students debuting soon include summarized financial information, class schedules, a feed of events from the campus events calendar and a “Wellness” section to connect students with resources and services related to personal health. More features for faculty and staff are planned for the next several months.
Currently the entire campus community can benefit from single sign-on access to core applications. Users can log in with their HSU User Name and password and move easily between web applications without having to bookmark and log into each application separately.
MyHumboldt is customizable and content can be rearranged or hidden to meet each user’s needs. There are a few areas, like My Announcements and the To Do List, which can’t be hidden because these areas will contain important information. The portal also features a “Quick Links” panel that provides direct access to commonly used information.
As always, users should be cautious with logins and passwords, especially with HSU User Names, as these accounts are used to access all the web apps contained within myHumboldt. A few tips to keep myHumboldt secure:
- keep your password secret
- in a public location, take care to shield your device when entering your password
- never leave your workstation unattended—log out, close your browser, and set a screen saver lock if you have one (particularly important for portable devices and shared machines in smart classrooms and labs)
- take special care to exit properly from myHumboldt
- depending on your browser, applications in myHumboldt will sometimes open in new tabs or windows—make sure to close ALL browser sessions to exit myHumboldt fully.
