Previously, Nagatsuka was Dean of Institutional Research and Planning at Rio Hondo College, Whittier, Calif., where she oversaw the creation and implementation of the Strategic Planning Process. Prior to that, she was Director of Institutional Research at Santa Monica College, Santa Monica, Calif., where she served as Chair of the Research Advisory Committee and Co-Chair of the Student Learning Outcomes Committee.
At both schools, Nagatsuka established new offices of institutional research and set the research agenda. She established longitudinal data warehouses for both institutions and linked the data to planning in program review, strategic planning and the creation of institutional effectiveness measures.
Nagatsuka comes to Humboldt State from the University of Hawaii, Honolulu, where she was assistant professor of Higher Education Administration. She taught curriculum in higher education, management and leadership and institutional effectiveness, among other courses.
Formerly a senior research analyst at UCLA who also holds a bachelor’s degree in Japanese and a master’s in social analysis directly related to institutional research, Nagatsuka will be responsible at Humboldt State for identifying pertinent institutional data, designing and executing data collection strategies, conducting data analyses and preparing summary reports for university planning. She will direct the staff of the new Office of Institutional Research and Planning (OIRP), which will collaborate directly with the Offices of Enrollment Management and Financial Services to develop long-term enrollment projections and campus resource analyses. She also will support assessments of HSU’s learning outcomes.
