Prior to his appointment, Perryman had been Chair of the Access Services Department in the HSU Library since 1995. In that capacity, his responsibilities included oversight of the Acquisitions, Cataloging, Circulation/Reserves, Interlibrary Loan and Periodicals/Serials Units. He also provided services at the Reference Desk and in the Library's Humboldt Room.
A veteran of more than 40 years of library experience, Perryman is active in the University community, including recent service with the Academic Senate, the Diversity Plan Action Council and the WASC Theme II Task Force. He has been a key player in the development and creation of the Learning Commons, including the new Library Café, working closely with former Dean Wang.
Perryman earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Behavioral Sciences and a Master of Library Science degree from San Jose State University. Before joining Humboldt State, he worked in the General Libraries of the University of Texas at Austin, where he was Deputy Assistant Director for Technical Services and Chair of the Acquisitions and Serials Department. Earlier positions included lengthy stints with the Stanford University Libraries and the Santa Clara County Free Library System.
Perryman resides with his family in McKinleyville.
