The University has partnered with Pacific Wave, FLAG's Echo subsea cable system, and Internet2 to introduce a new era of high-speed, reliable, and future-ready connectivity, transforming international collaboration.
“Our North Coast location is a critical hub for global data, and we are proud to continue our role in facilitating high-speed access to the Pacific Rim for the research and education community,” said Bethany Gilden, Acting Chief of Staff to the President.
The new partnership brings direct connections to Singapore, Guam, and Jakarta, opening doors for Humboldt faculty and students to collaborate with global peers like never before. From marine sciences and climate research to artificial intelligence and genomics, Cal Poly Humboldt is now equipped with digital infrastructure that matches the ambition of its research community.
The Echo cable system provides three core benefits for the academic community:
- Unmatched Speed: Researchers can now collaborate in real-time with Pacific Rim partners, sharing massive datasets and running complex models without delay.
- Reliable Access: Multiple pathways ensure uninterrupted connectivity for critical projects, particularly those requiring time-sensitive data.
- Future-Ready Capacity: The high-bandwidth system anticipates the growing data demands of the next decade, positioning Humboldt at the forefront of academic innovation.
This expansion underscores Cal Poly Humboldt’s role as more than a regional university—it is a global connector. Through partnerships with Internet2, the California State University Chancellor’s Office, and CENIC, the University is strengthening its place in the international research community.
For students and faculty, the investment represents a tangible commitment to world-class research capabilities. Whether advancing environmental studies, oceanography, or data-driven sciences, Humboldt offers connectivity that rivals leading research institutions worldwide.
The University also recognized Connie Stewart, Executive Director of Initiatives for the Office of the President, for her leadership in building the relationships that made this initiative possible.
