Student Missing After River Accident

Humboldt State University is working closely with the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department concerning a missing international student who was reportedly swept away in the Trinity River across from Tish Tang Creek Campground, Hoopa, at about 4:30 p.m., Sunday, June 19. The search continues today.

The missing Chinese student has been identified as Jian Kang, 21, a biochemistry major at HSU for the last two years. The university’s Center for International Programs has been in contact with Kang's family, and HSU is planning to provide lodging on campus when the family arrives from China. Support is also being provided by the Office of Student Affairs. Affected students seeking counseling services are encouraged to dial the Student Affairs number at 826-3361.
