Up to four projects or portions of larger multi-phase projects will be chosen this semester. Students from all academic disciplines are encouraged to participate. “I’m looking forward to seeing the proposals that go beyond just engineering by promoting creative energy education in our campus community,” says Sofia Pereira, Associated Students President.
This is the second round of funding offered by the HEIF Committee, which granted just over $100,000 last semester for two projects: an artistic photovoltaic array and an addition to a solar radiation monitoring system on the HSU Library roof.
The HEIF Committee’s first annual report, available online, sets forth the panel’s mission and goals, the year’s achievements and a summary of last spring’s projects. To learn more visit http://www.humboldt.edu/~heif.
The fund is financed by a $10.00 student fee that goes directly toward student-designed energy related projects. The committee is composed of students, staff and faculty and has been in operation since the fall of 2007.
“I have confidence in this program’s success because it is a great group of dedicated and intelligent people who are focusing on HEIF; the excitement that we feel for it is contagious,” says Kim King, HEIF committee member.
