Who says engineering can't be fun? Students in Lonny Grafman's Engineering 215 let their creative juices flow as part of the annual Rube Goldberg design project.

The national competition is named after Rube Goldberg, a 20th century cartoonist who depicted simple things occurring in complex ways. (Think the breakfast machine in the opening scene of _Back to the Future_.)
For this challenge, students in Grafman's class had to design and build a machine in just two weeks that could crush an aluminum can by utilizing a number of interesting and innovative steps. Among their limitations: machines had to be no larger than 4' x 4', cost less than $25 per team member, and include something printed using the university's new 3D printer.
