Some Campuses Will Open for Spring to Accommodate Transfer Students
“The CSU is working to ensure that transferring community college students can continue their education and achieve a bachelor’s degree,” said Ephraim P. Smith, CSU executive vice chancellor and chief academic officer. “Helping transfer students complete their degree is a priority.”
Students can submit applications from August 1 to 31.
While most CSU campuses will accept applications, some may still not be able to enroll new students or may only accept graduate and credential students due to a $650 million reduction in the CSU’s state funding for the current fiscal year.
Students are advised to visit the CSUMentor status page for information on which campuses are accepting applicants. Current and future applicants are also encouraged to visit CSUMentor to apply or find information on program offerings, financial aid and academic planning.
CSU Celebrates Partnership with DreamWorks Animation
A unique public-private partnership is helping CSU students become writers, directors, animators and business professionals at DreamWorks Animation, the Glendale-based movie studio with several blockbuster hits to its credit.
A delegation of CSU staff and faculty, including Chancellor Charles B. Reed, recently met with Jeffrey Katzenberg, Chief Executive Officer of DreamWorks Animation SKG and other executives to review the partnership and develop ideas to expand it in the future.
“We have such an amazing relationship with the CSU,” said Katzenberg who informed the group that 180 DreamWorks employees are CSU alumni, including Long Beach State graduate Jennifer Yuh Nelson who directed this summer’s Kung Fu Panda 2. In fact, many of the CSU alumni at DreamWorks come from Fullerton, Northridge, San Francisco and San José—the four CSU campuses that offer an animation degree.
Earlier this year, the CSU and DreamWorks launched a key element of the partnership: the DreamCrits program at San José State, a bi-monthly event that provides selected students with critiques of their work by DreamWorks artists. More information.
Two New Trustees Appointed
Gov. Jerry Brown has appointed Humboldt State Professor Bernadette Cheyne and CSU Chico student Jillian Ruddell to the CSU Board of Trustees.
Cheyne, a professor of theater, film and dance who has served as a statewide senator for the CSU Academic Senate from 2004 to the present, will serve a two-year term as Faculty Trustee.
Ruddell is pursuing a degree in multicultural and gender studies with a minor in women’s studies and will serve a two-year term as Student Trustee. She was director of CSU Chico’s Associated Students Women’s Center from 2009 to 2011 and is the first William Randolph Hearst/CSU Trustee’s Award for Outstanding Achievement recipient to serve as a CSU trustee. “More information“http://www.calstate.edu/pa/News/2011/Story/BOTAppt2011.shtml.
