HSU’s Marco Silveira Named CCAA Men’s Soccer Player of the Week
As announced recently by the office of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), Humboldt State men’s soccer player Marco Silveira was named the player of the week for the week of August 30-September 5. Silveira scored two goals and recorded two assists in the Lumberjacks’ 2-0 weekend.
The senior forward started the Lumberjacks’ weekend scoring what proved to be the game-winner in HSU’s 2-0 win over Westminster on Thursday, September 2 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Silveira connected on a ball from Nicolas Herrera Land in the 65th minute. Seventeen minutes later, the ‘Jacks sealed the victory when Daniel Adeyeye connected on a ball from Silveira.
The Lumberjacks continued their four-match road trip with a pair of matches in Hayward. HSU will have its home opener on Friday, Sept. 17 at 3 p.m. when the ‘Jacks host Simpson University at College Creek Field.
Lumberjack Women’s Soccer Team Starts Off Season 1-0-1
Humboldt State went 1-0-1 in the Lumberjacks opening weekend of the 2021 season. The ‘Jacks started the weekend with a 0-0 double overtime tie with Dominican University on Friday. Alexis Aguilar posted six saves en route to the shutout for the ‘Jacks. They finished the weekend with a thrilling 2-1 victory over Hawai’i Hilo on Sunday afternoon. Aguilar posted three saves in the Lumberjack win. Clara Lenihan connected on a ball from Poppy Cartledge for HSU’s first goal while Kendal Spencer scored the game-winner in the 74th minute.
Volleyball Begins 2021 in Rohnert Park
Humboldt State’s volleyball team commenced their 2021 season in Rohnert Park, Calif., for four non-conference matches in the Seawolf/Gator Classic on the campus of Sonoma State University. Humboldt State will have its home opener on Friday, Sept. 24 at 5 p.m. when the ‘Jacks face Stanislaus State in Lumberjack Arena.
Cross Country To Start off 2021 Hosting Own Invitational
The Lumberjack men’s and women’s cross country team will begin their season hosting the Humboldt State Invitational on Saturday, September 18 at Baywood Golf & Country Club in Arcata. The invitational is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m.
