University Bus Tour to Visit Sunny Brae, Fortuna

Humboldt State University President Rollin Richmond and student ambassadors will join local stops on the annual CSU/AT&T Road to College Bus Tour, Friday, April 30, at Sunny Brae Middle School and Fortuna Middle School.

The tour promotes early preparation for college, and the 40-foot bus carries an array of laptop computers to acquaint youngsters with career ideas, academic readiness and financial aid planning.

The bus will be at Sunny Brae Middle School from 9-10:30 a.m. President Richmond, CSU staff, Humboldt State student ambassadors and local officials will deliver brief introductory remarks, summarizing how student success in higher learning hinges on firm plans and goals, not only for college preparation, but also for career choices. Then officials will accompany students on board and mentor them on the laptops.

The Friday afternoon stop at Fortuna Middle School will run from 1:30-4 p.m. President Richmond, student ambassadors and others are scheduled to attend that event as well.
Now in its second year, the Road to College bus tour will reach out to thousands of middle and high school students at nearly 40 stops statewide, April 12 to May 14.
The 2010 tour is financed with $500,000 from AT&T.
In addition to early starts on academic preparation, the goals are expanding access to under-served students and helping to ensure that California is well-supplied with future workforce professionals.
