The site, which functions much like an app, can be found at m.humboldt.edu. It makes it easier for students, faculty, staff and the community to access campus information from gadgets like iPhones, Blackberries and tablets.
The site includes several popular features like athletic and campus news, event listings and a searchable campus directory. Users can personalize it by starring favorite contacts and HSU sports teams. There is even a new, fully labeled campus map that can be navigated by using a mobile GPS.
Additional features will be added over time. Users are encouraged to provide thoughts and ideas about the site using the “feedback” button near the bottom.
The new site was created in response to the growing number of HSU students, faculty and staff using mobile devices to study, teach and manage their day-to-day lives. According to a recent report by HSU Information Technology Services, the number of people using mobile devices to access the Internet during the first week of school jumped from 22 to 71 percent between 2010 and 2011.
The site was developed by Marketing & Communications, with support from Information Technology Services, using Kurogo, an open-source framework for mobile sites and iPhone and Android apps.
