TEDxHSU, a student-produced, prerecorded, virtual gathering, will show faculty-made films including “How to Keep Your Cool on a Warming Planet”, by Sarah Jaquette Ray Chair of Environmental Studies; “Land Return; Reimagining Possibilities”, by Cutcha Risling Baldy, Chair of Native American Studies; and “Restorative Ocean Farming” by Rick Zechman, Associate Dean of the College of Natural Resources & Sciences.
“Restorative Ocean Farming” will also feature Kendall Barbery of Greenwave, a nonprofit organization that focuses on regenerative farming techniques for aquaculture.
Krissi Fiebig, Environmental Studies student and compost director of the Waste Reduction Resource Awareness Program at HSU, will join Stephanie Alexandre of Alexandre’s Family Farm to talk about regenerative organic in their talk entitled “Climate Restoration’s Meal Ticket: It’s in the soil!”
Humboldt County Supervisors Mike Wilson and Steven Madrone will have a climate conversation in which they will discuss environmental policy that is needed to address climate issues. Steven Madrone is an HSU alumnus in watershed management, and natural resources, and taught forestry and watershed classes at HSU. Mike Wilson holds a Masters of Science in Environmental Systems Engineering from HSU and serves on the California Coastal Commission, as well as on the board of directors for Redwood Coast Energy Authority.
