Youth Educational Services Volunteers Go Above and Beyond

Youth Educational Services volunteers are ready to get their hands dirty on Cesar Chavez Day, March 31st as part of their annual Serve-a-Thon service project.

This year up to 100 volunteers are expected to participate in planting thousands of grasses, sedges and rushes as part of a wetland restoration project. Northcoast Regional Land Trust is hosting the project which is designed to re-vegetate many acres adjacent to Wood Creek near Freshwater Nursery.

The students will be donating four hours of their time during the HSU campus holiday to support the tradition of service provided by Y.E.S. They not only volunteer for semester long programs, each of which addresses an identified local community need, but also find the time to engage in this yearly event.

It is often a real challenge to find a project that is able to accommodate the numbers and enthusiasm that Youth Educational Services provides. It is a testament to the spirit of giving that has been promoted for over 40 years and is sustained by support from the campus and the generosity of individual donors. Many hands will continue that work on March 31.
