Students wishing to apply for financial aid for California State University campuses for the 2011-12 academic year have less than three weeks remaining to submit their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The priority deadline for submitting a FAFSA is Wednesday, March 2, 2011. Students are strongly encouraged to apply before the priority deadline as financial aid may be limited for submissions after March 2.

Following a devastating fire that gutted two structures at the Tea Garden Apartment Complex, the Humboldt State University campus is rallying behind the displaced residents to provide them with temporary housing and other necessities.

Ten Humboldt State University students were displaced from their apartments in downtown Arcata after a fire broke out at about 2:25 a.m., Wednesday at the Tea Garden Apartments. The apartments are located about six blocks from campus at the corner of 11th and F streets.

Proposed State Budget Presents Challenges for CSU
Gov. Brown’s state budget proposal allocates $2.29 billion to the CSU for 2011-2012, down from $2.77 billion for 2010-11—and the lowest budget for the CSU in 12 years, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Budget Robert Turnage reported this week to the CSU Board of Trustees. What is even more challenging is that the CSU is serving nearly 70,000 more students, he noted.
