HSU Hosts Zeltsman Marimba Festival June 30 – July 13

Humboldt State University’s Department of Music and Music Professor Eugene Novotney will host the international Zeltsman Marimba Festival June 30 - July 13 with multiple concerts open to the public.

Performances will be presented in solos and chamber ensembles, featuring leading marimba players Nancy Zeltsman, founder of the annual festival, and expert faculty from Canada, China, Mexico, Japan, Portugal and the U.S. Music-making will be centered on the marimba, including instruments made by Arcata’s Marimba One, a leading world manufacturer, and on the vibraphone and other percussion instruments. No advance reservations will be available; tickets will go on sale at the door at 7:15 p.m. prior to each evening’s performance and at 12:15 p.m. on July 13. Prices are $10 for adults, $7 for students and seniors. Concerts will take place at two venues: the Native Forum adjoining Humboldt State’s Behavioral and Social Sciences Building and at the festival co-sponsor Arcata Playhouse. The full concert schedule and other details are posted at zmf.us/concerts_opento.
