Move-in Day marks a milestone for new students, who officially began their new life at Cal Poly Humboldt.
Cal Poly Humboldt came alive as more than 800 first-time students and their families arrived on campus for the annual move-in, marking the start of the fall semester and a new chapter in the University’s growth.

Move-in events kicked off Saturday, Aug. 16, with a spirited welcome from campus and community partners. Around 75 student-athletes and 15 staff members from across campus volunteered to help haul boxes, carry mini-fridges, and guide new arrivals to their rooms. Local businesses also greeted incoming students and families with refreshments, campus resources, and a taste of Humboldt hospitality.

From the first box unloaded to the last goodbyes, Move-In Weekend offers a glimpse of the energy and sense of belonging that define life at Humboldt.

First-year student Logan Estrada, a first-generation college student, is excited to begin that life—in a new place far from home in Temecula. “I came to Humboldt for the Art program and because of the scenery — it really works well for trying to create art based around nature and animals,” Estrada says.

Like many families, Estrada’s mom, Vanessa, was beaming with pride. “It’s an achievement to get here, make the decision to continue his education, and to make something of himself.”

In the coming days, another 500 continuing and transfer students will move into Cal Poly Humboldt’s newest student housing complex—Hinarr Hu Moulik (pronounced hee-NOD huh MOO-leek). The project is the largest housing development in the University’s history, increasing on-campus housing capacity by nearly 50%. Located a half-mile north of campus, it comprises two multi-story buildings that will eventually house 964 students. Students began moving into the first wing of the complex, with the second wing scheduled to open this winter.

This year also marks the first year of the University’s on-campus living requirement for most freshmen. A total of 2,190 students are expected to live in University housing this fall, including 1,684 on the main campus and 506 in Hinarr Hu Moulik.

“We are looking forward to welcoming our new and returning students home to Humboldt,” said Chrissy Holliday, Vice President for Enrollment Management & Student Success. “Research has long shown that students who live on campus tend to do better both socially and academically, and we work hard to provide a safe, fun, and comfortable living environment. Move-in is the unofficial kick-off to the new year for our campus, and when students and families arrive, they’ll experience first-hand the sense of family and community that makes Humboldt special.”

A full slate of Fall Welcome Week events runs Monday, Aug. 18–Friday, Aug. 22, offering students and their families plenty of ways to connect, explore campus, and settle into life at Humboldt. Welcome events include a Parent, Family & Guest BBQ, a Housing’s Got Talent showcase, the part-time job fair, and opportunities to meet faculty from students’ chosen majors. Dozens of other activities throughout the week are designed to help students make friends, find resources, and feel at home from day one.
