The exhibit will run through March 26. The public is invited to visit the gallery during open hours. A live artist talk with Julia Bradshaw will be presented Wednesday, March 2 from 5-6 p.m. Zoom registration link can be found here.. A recording of the talk will be available via the Cal Poly Humboldt Galleries website after the event.

Artist, curator, and educator Julia Bradshaw presents her new project “Survey” which explores the material of astronomical photography to build and shape her art pieces.

“My intent is to make observations about scientific images and scientific annotations and to create delightful confusion through wit,” Bradshaw writes. “Thus, I acknowledge the complicated relationship between photography and reality; and the slippage of scientific speculation between reality and conjecture.”

Photography as Material also features an older project from Bradshaw called “Stacks and Shapes”, which focuses on “creating topographical landscapes and geometric shapes from source-photographs that refer to the fore-edges and top-edges of paperback books.” More information about Julia Bradshaw and her work can be found on her website.

The Reese Bullen Gallery can be found on the Cal Poly Humboldt campus in the Art Building, near the corner of Laurel Drive and B St. in Arcata. The gallery is open Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 11a.m.-5 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays 12-6 p.m., and Saturdays 11 a.m.-3 p.m. The gallery is closed Sundays and Mondays. Admission is free.
