A recording of the talk will be available via the Cal Poly Humboldt Galleries website after the event.
Artist, curator, and educator Julia Bradshaw presents her new project “Survey” which explores the material of astronomical photography to build and shape her art pieces.
“My intent is to make observations about scientific images and scientific annotations and to create delightful confusion through wit,” Bradshaw writes. “Thus, I acknowledge the complicated relationship between photography and reality; and the slippage of scientific speculation between reality and conjecture.”
Photography as Material also features an older project from Bradshaw called “Stacks and Shapes”, which focuses on “creating topographical landscapes and geometric shapes from source-photographs that refer to the fore-edges and top-edges of paperback books.” More information about Julia Bradshaw and her work can be found on her website.
