With funds raised from the North Coast Otter Arts Initiatives, Cal Poly Humboldt graduate students are conducting vital research to reveal new insights into otter behavior, their diet, and the ecosystems they rely on.

Otterly adorable is the best way to describe some observations made by Cal Poly Humboldt graduate students researching different aspects of otter behavior and feeding habits.

In 2019, Wildlife Professor Jeff Black and local leaders spearheaded the North Coast Otter Art Initiative with 108 unique pieces of Otter Art that were displayed at local shops, galleries, schools, and other locations. Since then, this community effort has garnered more than $300,000 in funding, which has been used to assist five graduate student’s research at Humboldt.

“The funding has been extremely helpful. It's really special to be part of a community effort and that this money is staying here to benefit the local wildlife” says Wildlife graduate student Charlotte Norman.
