HSU Pilgrim on Coastal Trek

Seth Powell walks along Southern California’s coast bearing only his backpack. His mission is to travel roughly 1,000 miles on foot to reach Humboldt State University in time for the first day of classes, Aug. 25. Each day he walks 20 miles carrying his pack in the California summer heat. So far, Powell has only ridden public transportation and accepted rides a handful of times. As long as the car was already heading north, he says, but the bulk of the journey will be on foot.

As a concert pianist, she is a well-known performer on North Coast stages as well as in prestigious venues around the world, and on television, radio and recordings. As a teacher at Humboldt State, she has trained prize-winning keyboard artists. She has been an activist and advocate for music education. Now some of her North Coast friends have organized a celebration of Deborah Clasquin’s achievements and a benefit concert to help her defray medical costs as she continues treatments for cancer.

HSU’s Athletes Earn CCAA Honors

HSU Geographers Make Strong Showing At State Conference

More than 20 HSU geography majors, accompanied by department chair Joe Leeper, professors Joy Adams, Stephen Cunha, Dennis Fitzsimons and Chris Hayne, attended the California Geographic Society's 62nd annual Conference. Adams chaired a panel discussion on “Strategies for Mentoring and Supporting Female Students and Faculty,” along with geography students Anna Leeper, Diana Muncy, Corinne Cogger and Angela Crane. Adams was also elected to the CGS board of directors. Leeper presented “Challenges Confronting Humboldt County Agriculture” and Cunha presented “The Changing Face of Vietnam.”

HSU Recognizes 2007-2008 Outstanding Students
