Top Presentations at IdeaFest Highlight Student, Faculty Research

Four research presentations are this year's audience-choice award winners from the 2015 IdeaFest, which took place April 17. Individual projects from the College of Professional Studies, College of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences, and two that tied for top honors in the College of Natural Resources, were represented.

_From CSU Public Affairs_ The California State University Chancellor’s Office has initiated a study that will provide a better understanding of college students who experience housing instability and food insecurity across all 23 CSU campuses.

Creating and Raising the Fitness Bar

The number one killer of firefighters isn’t burns or smoke inhalation. According to Arcata Fire District Battalion Chief Sean Campbell, it’s stress and exertion, which kills about 50 firefighters each year nationwide. “It’s not uncommon for firefighters working at a scene or just after an incident to die of a heart attack or other stress or overexertion related illness.”

Exploring the Wild Sonata with Cindy Moyer and Friends

Violinist and HSU Music Department chair Cindy Moyer is joined by pianist Daniela Mineva and other musical friends to explore the dynamic and varied form of the violin sonata through works by Handel, Beethoven, Brahms and Prokofiev at 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 25 in Fulkerson Recital Hall at HSU.

HSU Percussion: Toccata, Canticle and A Woman’s Right to Drum

HSU Percussion Ensemble breaks out all the instruments for classic works by Carlos Chavez, Lou Harrison and John Cage, and the World Percussion Group plays a traditional piece from Ghana that celebrates a woman’s right to drum, at 8 p.m. Sunday, April 19 in Fulkerson Recital Hall.
