HSU’s 2019-20 Outstanding Faculty Honored

Since 1964, Humboldt State has honored outstanding faculty. William Fisher, Department of Economics, Kishan Lara-Cooper, Department of Child Development, and Cutcha Risling Baldy, Department of Native American Studies, are the recipients of the 2019-20 Distinguished Faculty Awards.

Seabird Distribution in 3D: Assessing Risk from Offshore wind Energy Generation

Seabird species may be at risk for collision with, or displacement by, offshore wind turbines. Existing seabird distribution models describe the density and species composition in the California Current, and are used to identify hot spots for seabird activity. However, these models do not describe the three-dimensional distribution of flight behavior above the sea surface. Understanding flight height is key to accurately modeling the risk of direct interactions between seabirds and offshore wind turbines, and is the focus of Schatz Energy Research Center's latest offshore wind feasibility study.

Humboldt State University has concluded an administrative investigation into anonymous allegations of faculty misconduct, in which a faculty member was accused of soliciting students for paid sex.

Nursing Program Gets Go-Ahead for Fall 2020

Humboldt State University’s new Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing program (RN to BSN) received the green light from WASC Senior College & University Commission, the University’s regional accrediting body. HSU is now working on enrolling students and the first cohort of the program is on track to start in Fall 2020.
