Humboldt State University is celebrating its 20th year participating in International Education Week, Feb. 10-14.

Humboldt State was recently awarded $640,000 in basic needs funding from the California State University’s Basic Needs Partnership.

HSU’s Northern California Small Business Development Center (Norcal SBDC) assisted companies secure more than $314 million in capital in 2019, the most of 62 SBDC networks in the nation.

There are positive signs that efforts to keep students in school are working, with Humboldt State’s first-year students returning at higher rates than they had the last two years.

Due to popularity, Dr. Cornel West’s speaking engagement at Humboldt State has been moved to Friday, Feb. 7 at 8 p.m. in the Van Duzer Theater. This means a limited number of additional tickets are available on a first-come-first-serve basis, for free at the UC Ticket Office (707) 826-3928. As the semester kicks off, the Academic & Career Advising Center (ACAC) will offer free, gently used clothing to students launching their careers and looking for summer jobs and internships.

This spring, HSU students enrolled in an intensive workshop hosted by the Program of Environmental Studies will spend their spring break vacations applying knowledge to action in the name of climate resilience.

The African American Center for Academic Excellence (AACAE), in collaboration with multiple campus and community partners, is planning events and activities for the upcoming Black Liberation Month.

CSU Chancellor Timothy White, trustees, CSU presidents and hundreds more celebrated Humboldt State University and recognized Tom Jackson, Jr. as the University’s eighth president at the Presidential Investiture on January 15.

The HSU community chipped in again to provide holiday gifts for 134 local children in need.

Blending her cultural heritage, love of music, and call to serve the community, HSU student Valetta Molofsky organized the first Harvest Event at the Arcata Interfaith Gospel Choir (AIGC) in November. After receiving more than 800 acres of forest near Jacoby Creek near campus, Humboldt State University students and staff plan to conduct research in the area on a variety of subjects.

The College of the Redwoods and Humboldt State University formalized a longstanding partnership on Friday, with the overall goal of making the path to a four-year degree seamless for students who transfer.

Humboldt State University has once again received recertification for its contribution to the study of fire ecology. HSU joins only eight other universities in the country in receiving the AFE certification for contributing to the field of fire ecology.

The Humboldt State University debate team left their mark this fall by facing off with the most competitive debate teams in the country in a trio of key tournaments. The result was one of the best beginnings to a competitive season in recent memory.
