Earthquake-Tsunami Fair Goes Virtual

The Redwood Coast Tsunami Work Group and the Humboldt Earthquake Education Center at HSU partnered to create the Virtual Earthquake-Tsunami Fair, which launched this week, just in time for the Great ShakeOut this Thursday, October 15.

Indigenous Peoples’ Week with U.S. Poet Laureate

HSU's 27th annual Indigenous Peoples’ Week will feature virtual events that focus on indigenous policy, issues, and contributions and also expose the generational traumas resulting from the colonization of Indigenous peoples. Among the keynote speakers: U.S. Poet Laureate Joy Harjo.

Scott G. VanScoy Named Interim HSUPD Chief

Scott G. VanScoy began as Interim University Police Chief at HSU on Sept. 29. VanScoy was most recently a Captain at CSU Northridge Police, which provides a range of law enforcement and public safety services for the campus of 40,000. He began in that department in 1998.

Humboldt State Hosts SJSU Football

Humboldt State University will be hosting the San José State University football team for training and practice ahead of the start of their 2020 season. The Spartans will live and practice on campus, all while essentially maintaining a bubble to prevent contact between the team, the campus, and the local community.

‘Science for All’ with Spanish-Language Education in STEM

Strategic Planning Process Kicks Off

Last spring, members of the campus community began creating Humboldt State's Strategic Plan (2021-2026). Essential to the improvement and growth of HSU, this plan will articulate who we are as an institution now, what we want to work toward together, and who we want to be in five years.

Joseph I. Castro Appointed Eighth CSU Chancellor

The California State University (CSU) Board of Trustees has appointed Joseph I. Castro, Ph.D., to serve as the eighth chancellor of the California State University. Castro has served as the eighth president of California State University, Fresno since 2013. He is the first California native and first Mexican American to be appointed to oversee the 23-campus university. Castro will succeed Timothy P. White who is retiring after leading the university since late 2012.

Athletics Year in Review

The 2019-20 season saw Humboldt State University Lumberjacks student-athletes exceeding in the classroom, on the playing fields, and in the community.
