Budget Restrains CSU Enrollment

The new state budget provides the California State University system with essentially the same level of state support as last year. The final CSU budget consists of $2.97 billion from the state General Fund and $1.5 billion from student fee revenue. The budget is $215 million below CSU’s operational needs for 2008-09, according to the inflation and enrollment growth calculations by the Governor’s Department of Finance.

Record International Enrollment at HSU

Arcata - Humboldt State University has achieved record enrollment of 99 international students this fall and now has in its sights enlarging the International Programs Office into a full-blown International Resource Center, which would be a clearinghouse for all international programs and services for students and faculty within 10 years.

Students Eye $100,000 for Energy Efforts

Arcata - The student-financed Humboldt Energy Independence Fund (HEIF) will award $100,000 this semester for student-designed energy conservation, generation or education projects. A request for proposals (RFP) is posted on the HEIF website and the HEIF Committee hosted a brainstorm kickoff on Thursday, Sept. 18 in the South Lounge, University Center, to spur student collaboration and proposals.

Home advantage favors Jacks this week

ARCATA — September comes to a frenzied end when Humboldt State hosts six home sports events this week. Home football, along with men's and women's soccer, are all slated in Redwood Bowl, while volleyball plays a pair of matches in Lumberjack Arena. Before the weekend, however, the HSU soccer teams will travel for midweek conference games.
