Students recently made Humboldt State history: HSU’s debate team competed on the world stage for the first time ever. “It was nerve-wracking and exciting. I’ve competed regionally but never at this level, and didn’t know what to expect,” recalls Social Work graduate student Ruby Aguirre-Gutierrez.

Calypso Band to Play Year End Concert

Humboldt State’s Percussion Ensemble will play an evening-long concert featuring a spectrum of music for percussion, from the contemporary music of Europe to the exciting drumming rhythms of West Africa, and from the profound grooves of the Brasilian Samba to the festive steel drum sounds of the Calypso tradition of the Caribbean.

A teenage boy named CB begins to question the existence of an afterlife after his dog dies in “Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead” by Bert V. Royal, a production by the Humboldt State Department of Theatre, Film & Dance beginning Dec. 1.

Trees Tell Complicated Climate Change Story in Southwest Alaska

In the face of climate change, white spruce trees at the highest elevations in southwest Alaska are responding to increased temperatures with positive growth, while lower elevation trees appear to be experiencing reduced growth and susceptibility to attacks by spruce beetles according to a new study recently published by HSU faculty and alumni.
