This fall, Cal Poly Humboldt is launching five new academic programs designed to prepare students for high-impact careers. From healthcare to sustainable food systems, the programs address workforce needs across California and the North Coast.

Cal Poly Humboldt’s new Applied Humanities B.A. brings together the analytical power of the humanities and the hands-on focus of a polytechnic education to prepare students to navigate technology, health, and civic life with skill and purpose.

Last month, nearly 300 local students gathered for the annual Humboldt County History Day at Cal Poly Humboldt, exploring the theme “Revolution, Reaction, Reform in History” to coincide with the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. 

On April 1, when Jonathan Souza (‘01, Music Education) steps onto the podium at Carnegie Hall, he will carry more than a baton in his hand. He will carry a lifetime of rehearsals in small-town band rooms, late nights in the music lobby at Cal Poly Humboldt, the steady encouragement of mentors, and the voices of generations of students who learned to believe in themselves because he first believed in them.

In a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, scholars in Cal Poly Humboldt’s Pelican Bay Bachelor’s of Arts in Communication program interacted directly with renowned social justice activist, scholar, and author Angela Davis.

The Cal Poly Humboldt Department of Dance, Music & Theatre presents the fourth annual Fiesta Folklórica at the John Van Duzer Theatre on Friday, Feb. 20, at 7 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 21, at 7 p.m., and Sunday, Feb. 22, at 2 p.m.
