Peer mentoring at Cal Poly Humboldt’s Retention through Academic Mentoring Program (RAMP) has expanded its services to support all incoming first-time students, including freshmen, and upper and lower-division transfer students.

In response to the devastating fires in Los Angeles, Cal Poly Humboldt Art instructor Gina Tuzzi recently raffled off an original painting to raise funds to support artists affected by the fires.  

The recent Dec. 5 earthquake emphasized how important it is to be ready for natural disasters, especially earthquakes and tsunamis. California, and Humboldt County in particular, is known for its seismic activity, so it's crucial to have a plan in place. Being prepared can make a huge difference when the ground shakes or when there’s a risk of a tsunami.

Cal Poly Humboldt Geography Professor Amy Rock is on a mission to build more inclusive spaces for women in academia. Rock is a co-principal investigator (PI) on a $1 million project funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) to support foreign-born women faculty in geospatial sciences, a groundbreaking project aimed at fostering equity and inclusion in U.S. universities.

For the first time in 10 years, two Cal Poly Humboldt students, Journalism student Andres Felix and Psychology graduate student Shairy Jimenez Delgado, were selected to participate in the California State University’s Pre-Doctoral Program as Sally Casanova Scholars.

The Department of Dance, Music & Theatre at Cal Poly Humboldt presents Contemporary Music for Percussion performed by the Cal Poly Humboldt Percussion Ensemble; the Afro-Brazilian rhythms of Ile Aiye performed by the World Percussion Group; and the Festive Steel Drum Sounds of the Caribbean performed by the Humboldt Calypso Band.

The documentary will screen online Nov. 22-29 as part of American Indian Heritage Month.

Liminal bodies and space by visiting artists Linh Dao and Amanda Stojanov opens to the public on Thursday, Nov. 7, with an opening reception that evening from 4:30-6:30 p.m. in the Reese Bullen Gallery. The exhibition will run through Dec. 14.

A nationally renowned project with acclaimed film and stage actors is coming to the Van Duzer Theatre on Thursday, Oct. 24, from 7-9:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Dillon Harp, a graduate student at Cal Poly Humboldt, has always been passionate about learning. From a young age, his family spent countless days at the local library, absorbing knowledge and wisdom from books. This early exposure led him to pursue greater endeavors, develop new passions, and cherish culture and community.

Nearly 100 years after the Humboldt County logging community of Falk became a ghost town, the National Park Service announced its addition to the National Register of Historic Places this year.

Thanks to the Humboldt Arts Council’s Permanent Collection, a new art show celebrates the visual arts of former Cal Poly Humboldt faculty who have long been a part of campus and community life.

Cal Poly Humboldt received $360,000 from the California State University Chancellor’s Office to support students of Asian, Desi, Pacific Islander, Middle Eastern, and North African (ADPI-MENA) descent.

Over the last year, several dozen students spent months analyzing the complex challenges facing Algeria, Ethiopia, Malta, and Guinea-Bissau, preparing how best to represent their assigned countries.

The Cal Poly Humboldt Foundation partnered with the Ceramics Area of the Department of Art + Film’s Ceramics Club of Cal Poly Humboldt to create and produce over 400 Cal Poly Humboldt-inspired ceramic mugs as a unique gift for the University’s most generous recent donors.

With the support of thousands of families, the campus community, and local partners, Cal Poly Humboldt celebrated the Class of 2024.
