Since 1964, Humboldt State has honored outstanding faculty. John O. Reiss, Department of Biological Sciences, Susan E. Marshall, Department of Forestry & Wildland Resources, Nicole Jean Hill, Department of Art, and Justus D. Ortega, Department of Kinesiology & Recreation Administration, are the recipients of the 2018-19 Distinguished Faculty Awards.

HSU will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Indian Tribal and Educational Personnel Program in the Kate Buchanan Room on Friday, April 5 from 6-9 p.m.

On April 11 and 12, the Humboldt Bay Symposium will be held at the Wharfinger Building in Eureka. This year’s symposium, “Rising to Meet the Challenges of Climate Change,” will feature sessions on sea-level rise, ecological restoration, ocean science, and proposed and ongoing economic development in and around Humboldt Bay.

The community is invited to the 12th Annual California Big Time and Social Gathering, celebrating diverse California tribal cultures, on Saturday, April 6 from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. in HSU's West Gym.

A two part exhibition, Ikyav, Píkyav: Making, Re-Making, will run from April 4 through May 18 at the Goudi’ni Gallery. An opening reception will take place April 4 from 4:30-6:30 p.m.

Peace Corps announced today that Humboldt State University ranked No. 8 among medium schools on the agency’s list of top volunteer-producing colleges and universities in 2019. There are 30 alumnae currently volunteering in countries around the world.

El Leñador, the student-run bilingual newspaper at Humboldt State University, won first place in six categories in the 2019 California College Media Association statewide awards competition. The awards were presented on March 2 in La Jolla. The newspaper also placed in an additional six categories.

Donning bright green jackets and police radios, a group of HSU students reported for a new duty this week, helping the campus community stay safe. They’re part of the University Police Department’s safety escort program and are available to accompany students, staff, and faculty from one campus location to another at night.
