Humboldt State to Hold Vigil for Orlando

Humboldt State University will hold a vigil for the victims of the Orlando shooting at 4 p.m., Friday, June 17 on the UC Quad. Members of the University community and the public are invited to attend.

Seaweed Shed Light on the Evolution of Green Plants

A deep-water seaweed, some of which grow in depths of over 200 meters in clear tropical oceans, are the earliest diverging lineage of green algae and the oldest known multicellular green plant, according to a new study co-authored by Humboldt State University Associate Dean and Biology Professor, Rick Zechman.

HSU Press Publishes Maasai Dictionary

Humboldt State University Press is releasing its latest publication, Maasai Dictionary, on May 19. This book of translations from English to Maa (the language of Maasai peoples of Kenya and Tanzania) was compiled by Charles Richmond, circa 1940 during his time in the backcountry of Kenya colony, East Africa.

Donation Dash Makes it Easy to Move Out

With the end of the semester near, students from the Waste Reduction and Resources Awareness Program are partnering with local thrift stores to help students as they move out of residence halls.

CSU Statement on California Faculty Association Contract Ratification

_The following was provided by the California State University's Chancellor's Office._ (May 3, 2016) –– “The California State University is pleased the California Faculty Association (CFA) Board of Directors and membership have ratified the Tentative Agreement. The Tentative Agreement will now be considered by the CSU Board of Trustees at the May 24-25 meeting.”

Associated Students Announces Spring ‘16 Election Results

Nearly 700 people voted in the recent Associated Student elections, or a total of 8.4 percent of the 8,210 eligible voters. Voters overwhelmingly supported Jonah Platt for A.S. president, giving Platt, who ran unopposed, a total of 611 votes.

‘Child’s Skull’ Painting on War Experience in Prominent NYC Exhibition

Marie Campfield’s recent painting, “Child’s Skull, Kandahar Province,” is part of the prestigious Society of Illustrators Student Scholarship Exhibition at the Museum of American Illustration in New York City in May. Campfield is the first Humboldt State student to have work accepted in the competition.
