Nearly 700 people voted in the recent Associated Student elections, or a total of 8.4 percent of the 8,210 eligible voters. Voters overwhelmingly supported Jonah Platt for A.S. president, giving Platt, who ran unopposed, a total of 611 votes.

Marie Campfield’s recent painting, “Child’s Skull, Kandahar Province,” is part of the prestigious Society of Illustrators Student Scholarship Exhibition at the Museum of American Illustration in New York City in May. Campfield is the first Humboldt State student to have work accepted in the competition.

A recently completed study has found that Humboldt County’s average death rate for female breast cancer, 1990-2010, has been higher than death rates for women with breast cancer in the rest of the state, but that these differences are relatively small.
