The following message was provided by the Office of the President: To the University community: I am delighted to share the news that Dr. Alexander Enyedi will be joining Humboldt State University on January 11 as our Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.

The Humboldt State Lumerjacks take on the Northwest Missouri State Bearcats in the second round of the NCAA Division II Championships. Kick off is at 11 a.m. PST, in Maryville, Mo.

Humboldt State students are collaborating with a New Mexico-based artist to install a multicultural mural that will adorn the west-facing wall of the University Center. Prominently visible from the quad, the mural depicts the cultures of traditionally underrepresented students from the HSU community.

Humboldt State University has pledged support for the White House American Campuses Act on Climate demonstrating Humboldt State's commitment to carrying out sustainability goals and supporting strong action on climate change by world leaders.

Victor Golla, Humboldt State University Professor of Anthropology, has been named a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Election as a AAAS Fellow is an honor bestowed upon AAAS members by their peers.

Growing up in Bangkok, Thailand, Gritidach Manakitivipart (Matee) wasn’t exposed to the opportunities beyond the urban environment and to life sciences at school. “That wasn’t really promoted as a career as much as it is in the U.S. Even so, I was still very interested in nature,” says Matee. Today, he’s not just pursuing his love of nature as a Wildlife major at Humboldt State. He’s also being recognized for his research on a small, relatively unstudied songbird.

With GIS Day, Humboldt State’s Geospatial Club wants to educate the campus about the advantages of mapping technology. The club hosts GIS Day in the Library Fishbowl on Wednesday, Nov. 18, starting at 3:30 p.m.

Members of the HSU community feel safe on campus and are pleased with the level of police presence, but feel the University Police Department could do a better job communicating its preparedness to handle emergency situations and the services the department offers, according to a UPD survey.

Where there are cars, there is pollution. And when it rains, oil and other residues left behind on roads and parking lots are swept off the surface and deposited in wastewater systems virtually untouched. Thanks to a $1.4 million grant secured by the City of Arcata in collaboration with Humboldt State and the Northern Humboldt Unified School District, environment-friendly technology is addressing that problem throughout town.

Humboldt State University will recognize Native American Day this Friday, Sept. 25. The day honors Native American cultures and contributions to the State of California.

Already recognized by the White House as a leader in preventing sexualized violence on campus, Humboldt State University is one of 27 universities in the nation to receive funding under an $8.5 million Dept. of Justice grant competition to enhance victim services and develop programs to continue addressing sexualized violence.
