Intense, but relaxed. Rigid, but flexible. Those contradictory terms aptly describe the Applied Anthropology M.A. curriculum offered through Humboldt State’s College of eLearning and Extended Education.

Over the course of the fall semester, Humboldt State NOW will be profiling our new tenure-track faculty. In this edition, we introduce Professor Marissa O’Neill, Dept. of Social Work, whose expertise is in child welfare and research, and Professor Leena Dallasheh, Dept. of History, who earned her first degree in Law from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

Summer might be viewed as a quiet time on campus, but a quick look around reveals a hidden hub of activity. Along with the obvious ones, many behind-the-scenes projects have been completed or are underway as the fall semester begins, including an environmentally-friendly Low Impact Development system (LID) that cleans up storm run-off.

The largest incoming class of freshmen in HSU history–1,429 strong–brings the overall enrollment to 8,600 students, also a record according to preliminary figures.

Humboldt State held its commencement Saturday, May 16, in Redwood Bowl, with three ceremonies honoring graduates of the colleges of Arts, Humanities, & Social Sciences, Professional Studies, and Natural Resources & Sciences. A total of 1,500 degree candidates crossed the stage to be presented diplomas and congratulated by first-year Humboldt State President Lisa Rossbacher.
