Local radio DJ Mike Dronkers (’99, Journalism) says that HSU is like a "sandbox." “You can get in, you can get dirty, it’s kind of fun, you can make mistakes, nobody gets hurt, but at the end of the day, you learn what works and what doesn’t,” Dronkers says.

Students Help Craft City Parks Plan

“It’s like taking a puzzle and seeing how many pieces can fit together to please everyone within a budget,” says Chris Bryan, a Recreation senior in Steve Martin’s Environmental Planning Workshop class. The class is working on the master plan for Redwood Community Park and the Arcata Marsh, a document that will determine how these public spaces will be used for the next decade.

The California State University Employee Update

HSU Among Top Green Schools in the U.S. and Canada

For the third year in a row, Humboldt State University has been rated among the most environmentally responsible colleges in the U.S. and Canada by the Princeton Review, an education services company, in partnership with the U.S. Green Building Council.

HSU Cycling is Conference Champion

HSU Cycling is once again the Division II Western Collegiate Cycling Conference Champions in road racing, and HSU Cycling's Luke Ramseth is once again the overall Division II Conference Champion. Twelve members of the HSU's cycling team raced at conference championships in Reno this weekend. The team participated in the team time trial, criterium and road race events, finishing with enough points to win the title. Ramseth returned to Arcata with a medal, special yellow championship jersey and lucite star given only to the overall conference champions. He finished in sixth place in the Men's A, 88-mile road race, in a tense finishing sprint with the main pack just seconds behind a lead breakaway of two riders from UC Davis and UC Santa Cruz.

Relics of the Buddha Visit Arcata

The HSU Religious Studies Club invites the campus community to an exhibition of a precious collection of sacred relics of the Buddha and many other Buddhist masters. The relics will be on display at the Veterans Hall Memorial Building, 1425 J St., in Arcata on. An opening ceremony takes place on Friday, April 27, from 6 to 8 p.m. The display continues on Saturday, April 28, from 10 to 7 p.m. and Sunday, April 29, from 10 to 5 p.m.

Campus Honors Outstanding Students

Continuing a tradition begun in 1950, Humboldt State University honored its Outstanding Students 2011-2012 at award ceremonies Apr. 19, hosted by President Rollin Richmond, Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs Bob Snyder and Vice President of Student Affairs and Enrollment Peg Blake.

Austrian Film Judged Best Overall at Humboldt Film Festival

Austrian Peter Bruenner's film “In Our Hands” was named “Best of Fest” at the 45th Humboldt Film Festival, sponsored by Humboldt State University’s Department of Theatre, Film and Dance and billed as the oldest student-run international independent short film festival worldwide.

HSU Wins Plaudits for Excellence in Landscape Design

Humboldt State University will receive a Landscape Design Commendation from California Garden Clubs, Inc.’s Landscape Design Council in ceremonies at the spring meeting of the Humboldt District of CGCI on Friday, Apr. 27, at 11 a.m. at the First Covenant Church, 2526 J Street, Eureka. Humboldt State President Rollin Richmond will receive the honor on the university’s behalf.

Atheism Advocate Lectures on ‘The Folly of Faith’
