MyHumboldt Makes it Easer to Get Work Done Online

Humboldt State University has launched myHumboldt, an online portal for students, staff and faculty that simplifies access to popular web applications like email, calendar and learning software. Users can now access these applications by logging in once with their HSU User Name and password, making it much easier to get work done online.

Women's Soccer Team Suspended Three Games for Hazing

A Humboldt State University investigation has found evidence of hazing at a women’s soccer team party earlier this month and, as a consequence, President Rollin Richmond has suspended the team for three games.

Library Spotlights Special Collections

This month’s exhibit in the first floor Display Case at the Humboldt State University Library is titled HSU Library Special Collections: Looking Back at 15 Years, a selection of recent acquisitions and digitized older photograph collections from the Humboldt Room, assembled by Librarian Joan Berman and her recently-retired colleague, Archivist Edie Butler. The exhibit was designed and installed by summer intern and HSU alumna Brittany Britton (2012).

Men’s Soccer Season Cancelled, Players Face Discipline

Humboldt State University has cancelled the 2012-13 Men’s soccer season and initiated disciplinary proceedings against a number of players for hazing and underage drinking at a party two weeks ago. Players were found to have violated rules in the student and student-athlete codes of conduct.

Campus Hosts Part-Time Job Fair Aug. 23

Humboldt State University’s Career Center will host a Part-Time Job Fair on Thursday, Aug. 23, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., to help returning students meet local employers about employment opportunities. Last year’s fair drew more than 2,000 students.

HSU Names Vice President for Administration

Humboldt State University President Rollin Richmond has named Joyce Hendricks Lopes, Chief Business Officer and Assistant Superintendent at Western Placer Unified School District, Lincoln, CA, to be Vice President for Administration and Finance, effective Oct.1.

HSU Investigating Soccer Team

Humboldt State University is investigating multiple members of the Men’s Intercollegiate Soccer Team for alleged hazing, as well as violations of student and athletic codes of conduct.

HSU Hosts Quake/Tsunami Exhibit at County Fair

For the 13th consecutive year, Humboldt State University, the Redwood Coast Tsunami Work Group and the California Emergency Management Agency will sponsor the Earthquake Tsunami Exhibit at the Humboldt County Fair, Aug. 15-26. Hours will be 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. in Hindley Hall in the commercial building.

Teaching Institute Weighs Cultural Diversity Aug. 17

Biology Education Professor Kimberly Tanner of San Francisco State University will lead the keynote workshop “Cultural Competency in the Classroom” at the Fall Institute for Student Success on Friday, Aug. 17, 1:30-5:30 p.m. in the Behavioral and Social Sciences Building. Registration begins at 1 o’clock in the lobby.

Practice Fire Drill at 6 p.m.

Humboldt State will conduct a practice fire drill in one of its campus residence halls Wednesday, August 8, at 6 p.m.

OLLI Open House Set for Aug. 11 at HSU

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) will host its Fall 2012 Open House on Saturday, Aug. 11 from 1-3 p.m. at the Humboldt Bay Aquatic Center, 921 Waterfront Drive, Eureka. Early registration and OLLI faculty will be available.

Fall Convocation Set for Aug. 17 in Van Duzer

President Rollin Richmond and Provost Robert Snyder will welcome the campus community at Convocation ceremonies for the 2012/13 academic year on Friday, Aug. 17, at 8:30 a.m. in Van Duzer Theatre. Refreshments will be served immediately following in the Van Duzer Quad.

Campus Hosts Humboldt Orientation Program Aug. 15-17

Humboldt State hosts its annual Humboldt Orientation Program (HOP) from Wednesday, Aug.15 through Friday, Aug. 17 in a combined single session that will be the biggest ever, comprising 1,300 incoming freshmen. The Family and Guest Program will coincide with orientation.

The California State University Employee Update

_The following was provided by the CSU Chancellor's Office._ The California State University has reached a tentative agreement on a successor contract with the California Faculty Association (CFA). The contract runs through June 30, 2014 and becomes effective upon ratification by CFA members and the CSU Board of Trustees.

HSU Student Athletes Earn CCAA Honors

Thirty-three Humboldt State student-athletes have earned California Collegiate Athletic Association All-Academic recognition for their accomplishments in the classroom during the 2011-12 school year.
