Fresh from a “vividly dramatic” performance in Manhattan lauded by the New York Times, mezzo-soprano (and Arcata High grad) Hai-Ting Chinn returns home to perform a recital of spooky songs from the classical repertoire on Halloween night, Oct. 31 at the HSU Fulkerson Recital Hall at HSU.

The Sexual Assault Prevention Committee (SAPC) of Humboldt State has received a $250,000 Department of Justice grant to fund programs that prevent and respond to sexualized violence, domestic and dating violence and stalking.

A newly completed upgrade to Humboldt State’s hydrogen fueling station has connected HSU to California’s Hydrogen Highway, an emerging statewide network of such stations.

The Humboldt State Police Department and Emergency Management Program will host a series of campus wide fire drills Oct. 15-26. The annual drills meet the university’s building evacuation requirements. Emanuel Delgado, a senior majoring in geography, won a prestigious award at the 75th Association of Pacific Coast Geographers Meeting in Olympia, Wash. His poster, "Wetlands Loss of the Mad River Slough, 1870-2001," captured first prize in a competition that included undergraduate and graduate students from 11 western states.

Associated Students hosts a voter registration drive on Thursday, Oct. 18 in the South Lounge of the University Center. From noon until 2 p.m. students are encouraged to stop by the lounge, grab some free pizza, register to vote if they haven’t done so already, and learn about the candidates and initiatives that will appear on the Nov. 6 ballot.

Humboldt State alumnus and wildlife disease ecologist Mourad Gabriel will assess the threats to wildlife and the food chain posed by rodenticides and acutely toxic pesticides when he discusses the mounting risks of dismantled marijuana grows in a lecture on Monday, Oct. 29.
