Luke Trout’s interest in archeology began early in life – with Easter eggs. As a child, Trout would ask his family to hide the colored eggs over and over again. When his father began to manage ranch land in Colorado, Trout’s interest in Easter eggs shifted to the arrowheads he discovered there. The rest, he says, is history.

Biology Professor Jacob Varkey, Humboldt State’s Outstanding Professor of the Year 2009-2010, will deliver a free public lecture on whether sperm contribute to the early development of an embryo on Wednesday, Nov. 17, at 5 p.m. in Van Duzer Theatre. Humboldt State University’s First Street Gallery presents Made in Greece: An Exhibition of Works from the 2010 HSU Summer Art Program from Oct. 2 through Nov. 7. This exhibition consists of works made by Humboldt State students and their instructors during their studies in Greece this past summer. Based in Affisoss, a beachside village on Greece’s Pelion Peninsula, the program mixed intensive studio classes in painting and drawing with intermittent excursions to important historical, archeological and cultural destinations, ranging across the country of Greece.

A collection of Cenozoic vertebrate fossils from Humboldt State University’s Department of Geology is slated for transfer to the University of California Museum of Paleontology (UCMP). William Miller, a professor of Geology, expects the collection of roughly 100 specimens to be moved by the end of this semester.
