Schatz Engineer Takes Renewable Energy Abroad

Richard Engel, an engineer with the Schatz Energy Research Center and an Environmental Resources Engineering alum ('88), is back at HSU after serving as a Fulbright scholar to El Salvador. Engel spent a semester teaching and assisting with renewable energy projects in the region.

Students Win $75K EPA Sustainability Award

A team of Humboldt State University students from the Renewable Energy Student Union has won a $75,000 technology design award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for a prototype smart-grid electrical system in Bhutan, a landlocked developing country between India and China.

Lipman will speak on Thursday, April 8 from 6:30 to 8 p.m., in the Natural Resources Building room 101 (NR101) on the HSU campus. The title of his talk is "Low Carbon Vehicle Research at UC Berkeley's Transportation Sustainability Research Center."

TED Speaker to Share Origami Secrets at HSU

Lang, an international leader in computational origami and among the world’s foremost origami artists with a repertoire of more than 500 designs, will deliver a free public lecture at Humboldt State University on Tuesday, March 9. Alum Named Top U.S. Professor

Humboldt State University alumnus Robert Thomas (geology, ’85), professor of geology at the University of Montana Western, Dillon, Montana, and a 2008 winner of HSU’s Distinguished Alumni Award, has been named a 2009 U.S. Professor of the Year by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education, sponsored by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.

Guide Boosts Quake/Tsunami Readiness

Humboldt State University’s Humboldt Earthquake Education Center, in coordination with the Redwood Coast Tsunami Group, has produced a new edition of the preparedness handbook _Living on Shaky Ground_, which will soon update northern California residents on how to survive the kind of devastation wreaked five years ago when an Indian Ocean tsunami killed at least 230,000 people in 11 countries. It was the worst recorded tsunami ever.
